Bay of Bones Museum

(20 minute drive)

The Bay of Bones Museum offers a unique glimpse into prehistoric life in the region, situated on Lake Ohrid’s shoreline, this archaeological site features reconstructed pile-dwelling structures dating back to the Bronze and Iron Ages.

There is parking available on site for those with a car, or it is possible to get a bus from Ohrid for 60 MKD. The price for entry to the museum itself is 100 MKD for adults, MKD den for students and children.

Saint Jovan Bigorski Monastery

(1hr 30 minute drive)

Slightly further away in Mavrovo National Park, is the Saint Jovan Bigorski Monastery. Founded in the 11th century, this majestic Orthodox monastery is renowned for its stunning iconostasis, adorned with intricate woodcarvings and vibrant frescoes depicting religious scenes.

The entrance fee to enter the monastery is 100 MKD and their is adequate parking available on site. Unfortunately there are no public transport links available.

Saint Naum Monastery

(45 minute drive)

Around a 45m drive on the southern shores of Lake Ohrid, Saint Naum Monastery is dedicated to Saint Naum of Ohrid, a revered figure in Orthodox Christianity. Founded in the 10th century. in North Macedonia.

In addition to driving it is possible to get the bus from Ohrid to Sveti Naum, costing 110 MKD. However the more scenic option would be to take a boat trip from Ohrid Harbour, which costs around 700MKD for a return trip.

Galicica National Park

(1hr drive)

The National Park which surrounds Lake Ohrid has a diverse range of flora and fauna, including rare orchids and endemic species. The park offers numerous hiking trails for nature lovers and there are a number of companies offering ATV tours for the more adventurous.

It is possible to get a bus to the village of Trpejca from Ohrid, however any hiking routes from this point would have a considerable ascent. Therefore driving would be the better option for those looking to explore Galicica National Park, unless part of an organised tour which provides transport.

Struga
